Fibroids are dependent on hormones and they thrive on estrogen. The primary cause of fibroids is hormonal imbalance, specifically an excess of estrogen and a deficiency of progesterone. The most common benign tumors are uterine fibroids and these are usually seen in women of childbearing age, mostly women at their 30s to 40s. Still, it can develop at any age.
Uterine leiomyomas, fibromyomas, or myomas are also known as uterine fibroids, a non cancerous growth in the uterus. Most of the time, uterine leiomyomas don’t have any symptom, making them hard to discover. Their shapes, sizes, and location in the uterus can be different from one case to another.
Fibroids can be as small as a walnut or as big as a fetus, making a woman’s uterus expand as though six to seven month pregnant. Some symptom of this illness may include bleeding between periods or prolonged periods, frequent urination, constipation, and lower back pain.
The Topic of Caffeine
Fibroids can grow because of estrogen, a primary female sex hormone. Guareine and mateine, which are commonly known as caffeine, are among the many reasons for the growth and multiplication of fibroids.
Caffeine contains compounds called methyl-xanthines, which can raise estrogen levels in the body, causing fibroids to become worse. Remember, caffeine is not the reason why fibroids appear, but high levels of its consumption could worsen the fibroids already present in the body. The effects of caffeine in the growth of fibroids will depend on its source—not all can cause estrogen levels to increase.
The liver then plays an important role in providing a balance in the production of hormones since it has the ability to break down estrogen so that the body can eliminate it. If estrogens are not properly metabolized before reaching the small and large intestine, it can be reabsorbed back into the body. Thus, having liver problems can increase the levels of estrogen present in the body, leading to fibroid development.
This is where coffee enema helps in the treatment of fibroids. Coffee enema is a kind of enema used in alternative medicine, where a mixture of brewed, caffeinated coffee is used to cleanse the colon. This mixture is injected into the colon through the rectum. Enema is the process of administration of fluid into the body to the colon to clean lower intestines and the colon itself.
Coffee enema is safe to use for patients with uterine leiomyoma because the coffee will remain in the sigmoid colon and not go to the uterus. Coffee enema will then help clean the liver, allowing it to function properly. It also helps in clearing bacteria, fungus, yeast, and heavy metals in the liver, intestines, and colon. Likewise, it alleviates constipation.
More Studies Needed
It’s important to note, however, that no scientific studies have either proved or disproved that coffee enemas are helpful in treating the aforesaid medical condition. Scholarly evidence against or in support of the use of coffee enemas tend to vary, but most of those who’ve tried the alternative approach firsthand view it in a positive light.
