Getting Rid of Fibroids without Manual Intervention
It’s not always necessary to go through surgery when you have uterine fibroids. Majority of women who have them are actually lucky enough not to experience anything adverse. A small percentage, however, do experience symptoms ranging from mild discomfort to excruciating pain. Specialists advice natural remedies and prescribe medications as the case may be. Most fibroids that need to be removed require non-invasive or conventional surgical treatment procedures. In some cases, although rare, fibroids are expelled naturally without any manual intervention and without medication.
Kinds of Fibroids
Different kinds of fibroids ‘behave’ differently. Some grow on the uterine wall and protrude into the womb while some grow on the outside walls and press onto the areas around the uterus. They are benign solid masses that are dense and rubbery. Some may grow on stalks and hang from the uterine walls. There are some that prolapse through the cervix down to the vaginal canal.
These fibroids do not normally detach from the uterine walls on their own. Prolapsed pedunculated fibroids require surgery, often immediately as they could affect normal cervical and vaginal functions. Most fibroids expulsion occur as a result of previous surgical procedures and/or medications. Although, reports of spontaneously expelled fibroids are being looked into.
Natural Fibroids Expulsion
Fibroids degenerate and die — this is referred to as necrosis. This is one of the reasons why fibroids are expelled. Necrosis can happen primarily due to lack of blood flow for various reasons including vascular insufficiency, medications and treatment, and previous uterine surgeries.
In one study that involved a patient whose fibroids were expelled naturally without manual intervention, all possible medical and surgical reasons for the expulsion were crossed out after the initial investigation. The doctors came to the conclusion that the reason for the natural fibroids expulsion is most likely immunodeficiency.
Since it was spontaneous, the expulsion was ‘discovered’ only when the patient was hospitalized because of uterine fibroids symptoms — heavy bleeding, pain in the abdominal region, and fever. What made this case unusual were the vaginal expulsions that were observed while the patient was receiving hospital care. The reports described the expelled tissue as crumbling, flaccid, flabby, and stinky. Imaging tests subsequently showed the disappearance of the smaller fibroids and the reduction in size of the bigger ones.
Getting Out of Danger
Fibroids being expelled naturally is not always a good thing. Especially when it happens spontaneously and without medical or manual intervention, the ‘dead’ fibroids tissue fragments might not be expelled completely and some of them could stay in the uterine cavity. This could lead to sepsis and, if not immediately addressed, even death.
It is always advisable to have a regular check up with gynecologist especially if you have a family history of fibroids. You should be even more vigilant when you have already been diagnosed with fibroids. There is no need to panic everything you notice something different. Take note of the changes and discuss them with your doctor on your next visit.
Always be informed and be watchful of warning signs — such as persistent heavy bleeding, pain, and foul-smelling discharge among others — that warrant immediate medical attention. This way, you can avoid the complications that could happen when uterine fibroids are expelled naturally without any manual intervention.
